Balancing Station Speaker
Design and create a working Bluetooth speaker.
Solder parts together and customize as desired.
Method of prototyping: 3D printing
Interior
Porting- incorporating a hole/ escape for the air.
Enhances the speaker’s low frequency response and efficiency resulting in a deeper bass sound.
Exterior
A square/rectangular shape
Produces a stronger bass response than a round one.
Orientation is important
Facing the speaker towards users face for louder sound direct sound.
Research
First cad model soon was changed to have 2 speakers, to create stereo.
SolidWorks Model
Prototyping
After 3D printing, I soldered the wiring from the battery, charging board, BT receiver board in the base to the amplifier and speakers in the head of the speaker.
Every component of the speaker is pressure fit together and held in place. There are ribs and supported added inside for strength.
Test Prototype
Final Protype
Improvements
Tolerances / pressure fit
Distribution of visual weight in the base
Conference with the knob
Internal support for tightening the mechanism
Print quality
Learning Outcomes
My goals for this project were to use it as a time to learn how to prototype with a 3D printer. 3D printing is an awesome resource for quick prototyping although it can sometimes be unreliable.
I found that this 4-week project took some trial and error but overall, I learned about how 3D printers’ function and how to design for 3D printing.
